Cuba was amazing. it was everything i thought it would be, amplified about 10 times. There really is music *everywhere*. the first night we watched a free live concert from the balcony. and there are people outside everywhere, all the time. come back here and you wonder where everyone has gone.
we drank many many mojitos, were conned out of many pesos, got sunburned at the beach, snorkelled in a cave, got bitten to pieces by mosquitos at the 'house of maria', ate dinner at the famous paladar La Guarida, ignored the man who told us it was 'very dangerous!" to walk back to the hotel, drove over the highest bridge in cuba, had many conversations with cubans about ali g and salsa, squeed over many little dogs, cuddled a blue eyed cat called susie, bought stupidly cheap cigars, got soaked by waves at the malecon, were waited on by a man called george at the beach and realised walking all the way to the plaza de la revolucion is not a good idea unless you like being bathed in sweat.
I came back to freezing temperatures, an empty house and a pile of bills but at least walking through the crunchy autumn leaves on the way back home makes me smile. and the poster i saw walking through the university campus inviting me to join the student socialists society celebration of the anniversary of the russian revolution...
