I spent the weekend in Copenhagen with Lucy, which was lovely - Christmas as it should be without the tacky plastic snowmen, charver mothers and screaming kids. Made me even more determined that I'd like to live somewhere in one of the nordic countries, at least for a while. I don't know why the UK is so far behind the rest of western europe in terms of quality of life. I just loved being able to go out for dinner at 10.30pm and then chill out in some nice bars without having to avoid drunken stag and hen groups being sick over each other. *sigh*!
Didn't spend much - restricted myself to just one xmas decoration (a pretty glass snowflake), a children's book (of course!), a very cute outfit for celeste's new baby (i'll post a picture here after xmas incase she sees it!), and some xmas beer. I'm now lusting after moomin mugs which i'll be putting on my wishlist :p
Only one more week of proper work left, then I will be in Edinburgh for 2 days next week (design training during the day but the evenings will be free for exploration shopping and socialising :)), xmas parties, secret santa exchange and then off down to derbyshire to stay with my dad.
I've taken a rather chilled out approach to my shopping this year and i've just been picking up random things that i think certain people will like when i see them. I haven't spent a lot but I hope I've got things that people will like. The problem is that some people have ended up with lots of things and some people I haven't got anything for.... but i'm sure i'll get there in the end. I still have a couple of things I'd like to make and not sure i have time but i'm going to try. It's nice buying presents for people after so long scrimping and saving. I'd like to give some money to charity this xmas too but i'm not sure which one. it's something i don't do very often except for disaster relief and when my friends are doing sponsored fun runs etc (which i'd like to do myself next year now that i can run for longer than 30 seconds!). I'm open to suggestions -anyone have any favourite charities? i really don't know where to start looking...
I have a confession to make. I am actually planning on buying yet another plane ticket.... found out ryanair fly from newcastle to oslo for £35 return including taxes and the times mean i wouldn't even have to take an afternoon off work to go for the weekend. So I think i'm going to go with vicky next year. We're meeting up on halloween for dinner and we'll discuss it then, inbetween spooky cupcakes and scary movies. I love halloween.
After that trip I'll be saving up for cuba :p
Planning all the places i want to go and things i want to do is really what keeps me going. i alternate between really happy and really sad. life is just such a big mess. the only thing i can do is continue to seek out the things that make me happy and at the moment that means sacrificing my food/clothing/heating budget for plane tickets. i feel like a little speck floating around forever. may as well float somewhere interesting.
my money luck seems to be turning round.
i was stressing last night because i've spent so much money on holidays this last year and i have far too much on my credit card (just booked flights to copenhagen for second week in december - eeee! this must be a record for me, buying 2 plane tickets within a week). I've been cutting back everywhere i can, basically spending the minimum on food and no non-essentials to try and make up for this...
so anyway i've been listing a load of stuff on ebay, including my large collection of computer arts magazines which have been sitting around for years. I sold them *all* - made about £120. Then a girl just emailed offering me £8 for 2 tops that i didn't think were going to sell atall. aaaaaand i had a final bill from british gas when i got home telling me they owed me £60 - when does that ever happen?
this is funny because it's exactly what my horoscope said this morning - If you’re one of those Virgos who’s been pushing for more money in some way, today’s the day to close the deal.
heeee!
